SUMMARY: We are currently seeking a casual Pharmacy Technician to join our Hospital Community Pharmacy team. This position is casual, no benefits, day/evening shift, and rotating weekends.

Purpose of this position: Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, performs a variety of technical and clerical duties allowable by law, while maintaining a favorable image of the pharmacy within the hospital and in the community.

Responsibilities:

• Answers phones for the pharmacy department and directs calls to appropriate personnel.
• Maintains knowledge of the Hospital Credit and Collection Policy and other related policies.
• Prepackages, prepares, labels, and hands out prescriptions after they are checked by a registered pharmacist.
• Maintains cash registers, credit card machines, and reporting for cash transactions.
• Prepares daily deposits for the cashier’s office.
• Bills and credits patient medications.
• Stocks inventory in Pharmacy.
• Routinely checks and removes outdated and expired medications.
• Delivers medications to patient care and ancillary areas and picks up new orders as scheduled.
• Files prescriptions and reports.
• Maintains the pharmacy in a clean and organized fashion.
• Enters outpatient prescriptions.
• Obtains and records patient drug histories.
• Triages orders, determines priorities, processes orders, and notifies the pharmacist as appropriate.
• Performs various calculations to determine the correct dose using weight.
• Identifies the appropriate product to process based on the prescription order.
• Triages insurance rejections and initiates prior authorization claims as needed.
• Uses appropriate pharmaceutical-medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols.
• Maintains a working knowledge of general chemical and physical properties of drugs.
• Compounding medications as per Minnesota Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations.
• Is responsible for safe and careful handling of chemotherapeutic medications.
• Assists with other duties as assigned but only after appropriate training.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Computer skills.
• Knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems.
• Insurance and Billing Experience.
• Experience working with specialty medications in a health system setting.
• Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program or a 240-hour employer-based Technician training Program or 1,000 hours of Pharmacy experience.

• Ability to learn and apply pharmacy procedures and interpret prescriptions.
• Ability to apply basic math skills.
• Some skill in record keeping.

License/Certifications:

• Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with MN State Board.
• PTCB or ExCPT pharmacy tech certification within 1 year of date of hire, paid for by employee.

• Current Intern License with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.
